Tumbbad hit on Box Office and created history amidst the success of Stree-2

One of the standout films in Indian cinema's horror genre is *Tumbbad*. Released in 2018, this folk horror movie initially failed to make a significant impact at the box office. However, its re-release in 2024 has left everyone amazed, as it continues to perform exceptionally well, collecting impressive figures every day.
Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, *Tumbbad* hit theaters again on September 13, 2024, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan's film *The Buckingham Murders*. Now, after a week in theaters, the film’s box office collection is the talk of the town.

 Friday Collections of *Tumbbad*

The movie revolves around a mythical figure, Hastar, who grants gold coins in exchange for being fed dough dolls. Surprisingly, *Tumbbad’s* re-release box office figures seem enough to please Hastar himself!

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh recently shared the Friday box office figures of the horror movie on his official X account (formerly Twitter). On the second Friday, *Tumbbad* collected approximately ₹3.04 crores in a single day, coming just ₹1 crore short of competing with *Stree 2*. The total domestic collection of the film now stands at ₹16.48 crores.

A Profitable Return on Investment

*Did you know?* When *Tumbbad* was first released in 2018, the film was made on a modest budget of ₹15 crores. Unfortunately, at that time, it only managed to earn a lifetime total of ₹12 crores, making it a box office flop.

However, the 2024 re-release has turned the tables for the makers, proving to be a profitable venture. Combining the box office collections from both 2018 and 2024, the film has now earned over ₹11 crores in profit, with a return on investment (ROI) of over 80%.

Real Ghost Hauntings on *Tumbbad* Set

Interestingly, actor Sohum Shah, who plays a pivotal role in the movie, revealed that the set of *Tumbbad* was allegedly haunted by a real ghost. The team had to halt filming on several occasions due to unexplained incidents. Sohum Shah himself has shared his eerie experiences from the set, adding a real-life horror element to this cult classic.

*Tumbbad* has proven to be an enduring cinematic masterpiece, reminding audiences that timeless stories, especially in the horror genre, can always make a comeback.
